THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A HORSE
The other days I've camed across this new debate subject on a blog about the books we used to read or the ones we grew up with and how much time we spend on reading the ones we find interesting enough to deserve our atention. So, I remembered my first novel who caught my attention from the very beggining. It was called Black Beauty, by Anna Sewell. The novel was composed in the last years of her life, during which she was confined to her house as an invalid. The novel became a bestseller, with Sewell living just five months to see her first and only novel become a success. The story is narrated in the first person by a horse named Black Beauty, beginning with his days as a colt on an English farm, to his difficult life pulling cabs in London, continuing with his happy retirement in the country. By telling the story of a horse's life in the form of an autobiography and describing the world through the eyes of the horse, Anna Sewell broke new literary ground. She said that the purpose of this novel was to induce kindness, sympathy, and an understanding treatment of horses. The book has been adapted into film and television several times.
